"Mercury Vineyard Surgeries' is an emerging album by Grant Corum, and in this occasion he introduces a new entity from his domain; The Orchardist, a Mercurial cryptopodian-like astrologer, magician and pianist whose melodies induce surgeon vines to heal, in this case, the listener…These nine atmospheric tracks sound very ethereal and sparse, compared to older works by Corum, where rhythm reigned his zones. This time he abandons the drums and flutes, and uses electric, wind and water sounds, the cycles seem less automatic, evoking tension, relaxation and confusion, like organic machinery at the Akashic pavilion operating your systems..." noted upon its initial bloom in 2018 by Nonlocal Research, who originally released this album as a limited edition for a full U.S. tour across the States in which the cassettes were scattered like seeds….

“Some might say that an element of mystery and wonder associated with underground music is lost in the age of the internet. And it’s true; there’s really nothing like finding that unmarked LP in the bargain bin that blasts lo-fi industrial sounds out of your speakers when you put it on the table or pulling a cassette wrapped in some sort of felt-like material with no identifying information off of a forgotten music store shelf. But I came damn close to that pleasing feeling of bewilderment when I came across 'Mercury Vineyard Surgeries',” wrote Noise Not Music upon the album's initial release.

Intended as a prelude for a larger body of work, due out later this year, Psychic Sounds has released a fully remastered vision, with new artwork, by Corum, which includes a stunning hand-numbered limited edition double-sided 2-color screen-print insert depicting the scenes of the science & mystery involved.

NNM reflects, “It's been seven years since we first entered the orchard. At first it was alarming that we couldn't leave; we're used to it now. What more could we want? Under the trees it's dark but safe and so warm, the synth bubbles flow like syrup, the melodies get lost but we find them again. The Orchardist is out and about, making music for the plants but not minding if we listen in. Mort Garson's left footprints in the peat... maybe Terry Riley's been by too. There's magic in the air and in the ground and it sounds like squelching photosynthesis. The original release closed with the hard-earned rays of sunshine in "Mercury's Observatory", but now the B side of this lovely LP reimagining leaves things on a more mysterious note with the mysterious and electric bonus track "The Expanding Universe (B)."
